SCOPE Data Format Document for 2018 HOT LAVA cruise August 28, 2018 1. Cruise Summary Summarizes the CTD casts taken during this cruise. Columns : Stn : Station number Cast : Cast number Date : GMT date at start of CTD cast Time : GMT time at start of CTD cast Latitude/Longitude : Location at start of CTD cast Depth : Deepest depth sampled during this cast Bottles : Number of 12L Niskin bottles tripped 2. Up & Downcast CTD CTD data was collected using a SeaBird 9-11plus CTD at the maximum sampling rate of 24 samples per second (i.e. 24 Hz). Data were screened for errors and processed to 1-decibar averages. CTD oxygen was calibrated using discrete bottle dissolved oxygen samples taken during the cruise. CTD fluorescence was calibrated using discrete chlorophyll samples taken and analyzed on a Turner Designs model 10-AU. File format : lavasc.ctd Columns : CTDPRS : Pressure [decibars] CTDTMP : Temperature [deg C] CTDSAL : Salinity [PSS-78] CTDOXY : Oxygen [umol/l] CHLPIG : Chloropigment (i.e. CTD Fluorescence) [ug/l] BEAM.AT : Beam Attenuation [1/m] XMISS : Transmission [%] NumObs. : Number of 24-Hz samples QUALT1 : Quality of measurement Quality : 1 : Not quality controlled 2 : Good 3 : Questionable 4 : Bad 5 : Missing 9 : Not taken 3. Core Water Column data This file contains averaged CTD data at every Niskin bottle trip as well as the (SCOPE)core water column data. The location of the ship when the cast was started is also included. Missing data are filled with -9. Variables having asterisks in their heading have a quality flag associated with them. Surface PAR Photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) at the sea surface was measured using a LiCOR LI-1500 data logger and cosine collector. The instrument recorded data from the time the ship departed the Harbor until its return. Columns : Record : sequential data acquisition number Date/Time : local date/time (HST) LIGHT : 1-min averaged PAR [uE/m^2/s] MIN : minimum light value during 1-min interval [uE/m^2/s] MAX : maximum light value during 1-min interval [uE/m^2/s] CHK : ?
